ICORE 2018 Annual Meeting and presentation with Mike Beno
October 30 @ 5:00 pm - 8:30 pm
ICORE will hold its Annual Meeting on Tuesday, October 30th in the Mercer Community Center. ICORE members and members of the public are invited to join us for the Annual Meeting at 5pm, a potluck dinner at 6pm, and a presentation with Mike Beno of Our Wisconsin magazine at 7pm.
Iron County Outdoor Recreation Enthusiasts (ICORE) and Mercer Public Library will host Mike Beno for a talk about the beginnings of Our Wisconsin magazine, communication, and the current media landscape on Tuesday, October 30 at 7:00 p.m. The program will be held at the Mercer Community Center and is free and open to all.
Mike Beno flunked retirement. So, in 2013 he launched a magazine off the kitchen table at his backwoods home in Presque Isle. Six years later, Our Wisconsin has become the most popular magazine ever devoted to this state. Credit for that is due to the publication’s assistant editor, Chester, the red Labrador.
Beno started in newspapers in Portage in 1979, then moved on to Chicago to become managing editor at Ducks Unlimited magazine. Twelve years later, he became editorial director at Reiman Publications, publisher of 13 national magazines including Taste of Home, Birds & Blooms and Reminisce, reaching over 16 million subscribers. Born in Oshkosh, raised in Green Bay and schooled in Madison, Beno can think of no better subject to write about than Wisconsin.
ICORE is a group of silent sports enthusiasts promoting the responsible use of land and water for the enjoyment of all. Their mission is to promote non-motorized activities and to enhance silent outdoor recreational opportunities in and around Iron County. Recent ICORE projects include work on the trail to Corrigan’s Lookout in Upson, improvements to the bike trail head in Hurley, and work days at Lipp Lake and the Little Turtle Flowage in Mercer. ICORE also sponsors informational programs and activities throughout the year.
ICORE will hold its annual membership meeting at 5:00 p.m. followed by a 6:00 p.m. potluck dinner. All current, new, or prospective members of ICORE are welcome to attend. Mike Beno’s program at 7:00 p.m. is open to the general public.
