Work bee at CCC Camp Mercer Trail
November 6, 2020 @ 9:00 am - 12:00 pmFree
Join ICORE for a work day on one of the newest trails in the Northern Highlands American Legion (NHAL) State Forest on Friday, November 6 at 9:00 a.m. We’ll be clearing brush and removing downed trees from the trail. Bring work gloves, hand saws, nippers, and any other hand tools that might work for brushing. Local historian Jim Bokern will help direct our volunteers on what areas to clear.
Note: We do not have permission from the DNR to operate any power tools on the site, so please do NOT bring chainsaws or other power tools. We will be doing hand work only.
Follow local advisories for social distancing, including wearing a face mask if you cannot remain a safe distance from others.
The Camp Mercer CCC trail runs along the Manitowish River on the site of the Camp Mercer CCC Camp, in operation from 1933 through around 1941. Several important features still remain on the site, and ICORE is partnering with the Manitowish Waters Historical Society and the NHAL State Forest to develop an interpretive trail to share this important piece of local and national history. The trail also connects with the Mercer and Heart of Vilas Bike Trail.
