Ladies Let the Paddling Begin!!!!
Hello Ladies!
Our first paddle of the season will be this coming Wednesday, paddling on the Bear River to Murray’s Landing. The water will be 10-15 degrees warmer than some past years, because of the early ice-off and the shallow water. Our first couple of paddles tend to be shorter, a couple of hours, and we start a little later to let the day warm up a bit. There is very little water in the Manitowish, but the Bear looks like it has adequate water, so I think we will be okay, although the river is going to look different than other years and we won’t enjoy as strong a current.
Parking is really tight at the Bear, so we will meet at Murray’s landing, and use as few vehicles as possible to get to the Bear. Let’s meet at Murray’s at 9:00 and hope to be on the water by 9:30 am. To reach Murray’s Landing from Mercer, take Hwy 51 south for 3 miles to Murray’s Landing Rd on your right. Turn there and follow it to the end, about 7 miles.
I am encouraged that the forecast is now for a sunny day, but it will be cool, so be sure to dress for the weather. Also, for safety reasons, you should bring an extra set of dry clothes to carry in a waterproof bag in the boat, just in case…What else should you bring? Water bottle, hat with a brim, dark glasses, sunscreen, paddle gloves if you use them, sandals/ shoes/boots that can get wet, possibly a spray skirt to hold in the heat, waterproof gloves if you have them, life jacket, paddle.
If you are interested in stopping for lunch after the paddle, bring some extra cash and we will go to the Wolf’s Den.
If you do plan to come, please let me know. To RSVP click on this link ICOREs Meetup.
