Trail work continuing this summer

Trail work continues on various projects in Iron County this summer, as the many volunteers and organizations in our area continue their improvement plans:

  • Charlie Zinsmaster of the Penokee Rangers reports that rough cutting on new Uller Novice Loop is nearly completed. Dozing and signs will follow as the season progresses. Trail maps of the current Uller Trail system, along with MECCA trails and Montreal Ski Trails, are available on the Iron County Forestry and Parks website.
  • The Heritage Chapter of the North Country trail recently completed a work weekend on the trail, and has several more scheduled for the summer. Check out their Meetup page for details.
  • ICORE’s trails committee is planning a fundraiser for the Hurley Area Non-Motorized Trail on July 14. The committee is working with the City of Hurley to put up new signage at the trailhead on Highway 51 and establish and improve temporary trail routes through downtown. Visit our events page for more info on the fundraiser.
